from evi with love: Day 96: resumé

Ich hatte die letzten Tage immer etwas zu tun, deswegen kommt der Post erst jetzt. Wird wahrscheinlich ein langer Eintrag.

Am Montag hat in der Firma, in der ich mein Praktikum mache, ein neuer Praktikant angefangen. Der ist echt nett und ich komm gut mit ihm aus. Allerdings hat er von unserer Chefin schon eins auf den Deckel bekommen, weil er quasi jeden Tag zu spät war. Und jeden Tag kam er aber mit einem Starbucks Kaffee in der Hand an. Klar kann man mal zu spät kommen, aber wenn, dann sollte man besser keinen frischen, heißen Kaffee bei sich haben.
Am Mittwoch bin ich zu einen Barbecue gegangen. Es war quasi die Abschieds'party' von Katharina, ihrem Cousin und dessen Kumpel. Ich bin direkt nach der Arbeit nach Bondi gefahren, deswegen musste ich mein Grillzeug noch schnell im Supermarkt besorgen. Zu meiner Enttäuschung war aber die Packung mit dem mediterranen Gemüse, die so wie sie ist auf den Grill gestellt werden kann, ausverkauft und so viel mein Essen dann ziemlich mager aus: Salat und Knoblauch Baguette. Trotzdem war es ein schöner, warmer Abend. Allerdings fiel es mir auch nicht leicht, mich von den drei zu verabschieden, denn wir hatten echt viel Spaß in der Zeit, die wir zusammen verbracht haben. Ich werde vor allem Katharina echt vermissen. Sie war hier meine beste Freundin und jetzt geht sie weiter nach Cairns. Natürlich werde ich hier jetzt nicht die ganze Zeit alleine sein; aber es wird einfach nicht das gleiche sein. Ich bin schon ein bisschen traurig, aber ich wusste ja als ich hier her kam, dass es wahrscheinlich Zeiten gibt, in denen ich auch mal alleine sein werde und ich glaub dass es auch mal gut tun kann, Zeit nur für sich ganz allein zu haben und zu tun was auch immer man möchte, ohne auf die Bedürfnisse anderer zu achten. Ich hab noch so viele Sachen auf meiner To-Do Liste, die alle noch gemacht werden müssen. Ob alleine oder mit anderen ist mir dann relativ egal.
Donnerstag war der heißeste Tag der Woche - 40 Grad hatte es mittags. Ich glaube das war der erste Tag, an dem ich froh war, im extrem klimatisierten Büro zu sitzen.
Freitag Abend wollte ich eigentlich dazu nutzen, um meine Reiseunterlagen für März alle mal richtig zu ordnen und mir alles genau aufzuschreiben und mein Visum für Neuseeland zu beantragen. Aber dann wurde ich - ganz spontan - noch zu einer Geburtstagsparty in Maloney's Bar eingeladen. Es war nett die Leute mal wieder zu sehen und wir hatten viel Spaß - spielten ein paar Trinkspiele. Als alle dann tanzen wollten bin ich aber heim gegangen, da ich nicht wirklich Lust auf tanzen hatte - komisch, aber ich hab keine Ahnung warum das so war.
Heute kann ich dann schon etwas von meiner To-Do Liste streichen: Glebe Market. Das ist ein Markt in der Nähe von meinem Apartment und der ist eher alternativ. Es gibt viele vintage Sachen, Second Hand Stände und handgemachte Kunst und Handwerk. Es war schön so durch die Reihen zu laufen aber um ehrlich zu sein haben mir die Sachen dort jetzt nicht so gut gefallen. Deswegen hab ich auch nur ein Souvenir für mich selber und eines für jemanden zu Hause (für wen sag ich aber natürlich nicht) gekauft.
Dann bin ich weiter zu den Paddy's Markets. Das ist genau das Gegenteil vom Glebe Market. Ich glaube ich hab schon mal darüber geschrieben, aber ich erzähl jetzt einfach von meiner heutigen Erfahrung. Also die Paddy's Markets sind in einer großen Markthalle im Stadtzentrum und sind da immer Mittwoch bis Sonntag, jeweils von 10 bis 18 Uhr. Und es ist rieeeesig. Es gibt da einfach alles: Kleidung, Souvenirs, Handyhüllen, Schmuck, Gewürze, Kräuter und vor allem extrem billiges Obst un Gemüse.
Ich bin also in die Halle gegangen und war exrem in Geld-Ausgeb-Laune. Ich hab soviel gekauft - alles mögliche für alle möglichen Familienmitglieder und Freunde. Und aber auch viel Obst un Gemüse weil das dort eben so billig ist. Ich hab für $15 eingekauft - im Supermarkt wären das locker $30 gewesen.
Eigentlich wollte ich heute dann noch in ein Freiluft Kino am Darling Harbour gehen, aber das Wetter spielt irgendwie nicht richtig mit. Erst scheint die Sonne, dann gibt es für 10 Minuten mal 'nen heftigen Schauer, dann scheint wieder die Sonne. Es ist echt schwer einzuschätzen, deswegen bleibe ich heute wahrscheinlich zu Hause und mach das mit meiner Reise fertig.
Zur Zeit hab ich ein Problem mit Ameisen in meinem Zimmer. Die kommen durch Spalten im Fensterrahmen - der ist echt undicht. Das ist echt ekelhaft. Ich hab auch eine E-Mail an den Hausmanager geschrieben, ob er irgendwas dagegen hat, aber der meldet sich nicht zurück. Ich hab eh so dass Gefühl, der Firma, die dieses Apartment und auch noch ein paar andere vermietet, sind ihre Mieter ganz egal. Es ist denen egal ob etwas kaputt ist, oder ob wir seit Tagen kein Klopapier mehr haben - mir wurden die mit der Zeit immer unsympathischer. Denen geht's nur ums Geld und die ziehen uns das Geld quasi aus der Tasche. Aber gut, ich bin nur noch 6 Wochen hier, dann geht es weiter nach Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock und Auckland.
Ich freue mich schon richtig auf meine Reise. Ginge es nach mir, würde ich am liebsten nächste Woche schon weg. Aber ich muss natürlich mein Praktikum noch zu Ende bringen.

I have been busy the last days, so I am going to tell you what I did. I guess this is going to be a long text.

On Monday, the new intern started at the company I am working for. He is very nice and we get along very well but he already got into trouble with my boss. He was late the whole week but arrived with a Starbuck's every day. Of course being late can happen sometimes, but if you're already late, you should better not arrive with a fresh hot coffe.
On Wednesday, I went to a BBQ after work. It was actually the farewell of Katharina, her counsin and his friend. As I went there directly after work, I had to buy some stuff at the supermarket. But for my disappointment, the mediterranean vegetables, which are already prepared for grilling, have been sold out and therefore my meal turned out to be quite poor: salad and some garlic bread. Anyway, we had a great evening, but of course saying goodbye to the guy was hard because we truly had lots of fun during our time together. I am really going to miss them, especially Katharina. She was my best friend here and now she is heading towards Cairns. Of course I am not going to be alone the whole time, I still know some people around here; but it won't be the same. I am quite sad, but actually I knew that I was going to be alone some day and I believe that it is also healthy to spend some time alone. I can do whatever I want and there are so many things to do on my bucket list - I wouldn't mind completing them alone, but of course it is always nicer when you're accompanied by someone.
Thursday turned out to be the hottest day of the week - about 40 degrees. This day was the first day that I was happy to be in the office, where the aircon cools down the whole room.
I actually wanted to spend friday night sorting out my jouney and applying for my New Zealand visa. But I happened to be invited to a birthday party at a bar called Maloney's Bar. It was nice seeing the guys. We played some drinking games and had actually lots of fun. But when they all started dancing I decided to go home. I really wasn't in the mood for dancing - I have no idea why.
Today I can tick something from my bucket list: I went to Glebe Market. This is a market close to my appartment and it is really alternative. There are many vintage stands, secons hand stands and handmade arts and crafts. It was nice to walk through the aisles and looking at the stuff. But in fact, most of the things did not appeal to me, so I just bought some souvenir for myself and one for somebody at home. But surely I won't tell you whom it is for.
Afterwards I headed for the Paddy's Markets. It is the complete opposite of the Glebe Market. I think I already wrote about them; but I am going to tell you how I experienced them today. Paddy's Markets take place in a big market hall in the CBD and they run from Wednesday 'till Sunday, 10am to 6pm. And it it huge. You can get almost everything there. Clothes, souvenirs, phone cases, herbs, spices and especially very cheap vegetables and fruit.
So I went inside and I kind of fell into a shopping spree. I bought so many souvenirs for my family and my friends and also stuff for myself - I don't quite know how much money I left there. But the more important thing is that I also bought many vegetables and fruit. They are only half the price from the supermarkets and almost all of the are grown local. I spend $15 on these things; in the supermarket I would have paid $30. I think about starting to buy my food there only.
I actually wanted to go to an open air cinema at Darling Harbour today, but it is always raining today. The sun appears, then there is a strong shiver for about 10 minutes, and then the sun is shining again. So I do better staying at home and sorting out my journey today.
I currently have ants in my room. It is really disgusting. They come into my room through the gaps in the window frame which is realy leaky. I wrote an e-mail to the house manager if he can provide something to close those gaps but he is not responding. Apparently, the company who rents these kind of appartments really doesn't care about their tenants. They don't care if anything is broken or if we don't have any toilet paper since days - I really don't like them anymore. They're just up for the money and they literally require money for everything. Not good. The good thing is that I will only stay in this appartment for six more weeks and then I will head for Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock and Auckland.
I am really looking forward to my journey - if it was up to me now, I would start it next week. But I have to finish my internship.
